How Much Does the Media Influence our Wardrobes?

Everybody dresses a certain way because it makes them look good enough for their personal standards. But at the same time, we are all influenced by the world we live in, just as we always have been. While we all take our cues from what celebrities are wearing, and from the current trends out there, we don’t just turn ourselves into carbon copies of whatever’s flying around the red carpet or flashing around the latest music videos.

Take Coogi clothing, for instance. With its relaxed cuts, it deviates a lot from some previous styles. But at the same time, the idea of having a relaxed fit and letting someone checking you out wonder what you are packing underneath is a good thing, too. As time goes on, fashion changes. But is this a change that someone up on top imposes on the rest of us, or is it something where most of society just decides something together? This is almost a nature and nurture type of debate. Where does the media stop and the real society really start?

It’s one of those things where the red carpet is something of a guide. You would never see a woman walk into a major premiere in a pair of jeans. As a matter of fact, you wouldn’t see a man walking in there wearing a denim suit, despite the fact that such a thing actually exists. It’s possible that the red carpet’s main role is to provide the rest of us with a little guidance about how to be at the pinnacle of formality, while the rest of us inform the best choices for an ordinary day.
